Most of us have prayed for the mountain, and God has answered, and then Monday arrived with its dishes, its inbox and its tired body. The question Cheshvan asks is not "Did you encounter God?" but "Where did the encounter go?"

Styrax - month of pure speech I'll be honest with you, this stretch of the year is not my favorite. There are moments when you can feel a season changing before you can explain why. Something in you knows that you are standing at a threshold. Excitement and terror hold hands. You may not have evidence yet, but there is a quiet recognition: something is moving. That is where I find myself as we cross into Tishrei, and I have a feeling I am not standing here alone.
